SP Water Works to start upgrades

Upgrades are in the near future for the South Pittsburg Water Works treatment plant, which was built in 1974.

According to Director Don Blansett, the company recently received a $1.7 million United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant and loan. Blansett said approximately $393,000 came from the grant and the rest came from a loan.

“Don’t be afraid to take risks” was the advice keynote speaker Jeffery Culpepper ’77 offered to South Pittsburg students at the forty-first annual Rotary Club Academic Awards Banquet.

Middle and high school students with an “A” average were asked to attend this year’s event held at the South Pittsburg Cafeteria.

Popular movie to be shown on big screen
A replica of the 30-foot movie screen to be used for the showing of Alvin and The Chipmunks on the South Pittsburg football field next Friday.
A replica of the 30-foot movie screen to be used for the showing of Alvin and The Chipmunks on the South Pittsburg football field next Friday.

The South Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Department will be showing the popular movie “Alvin and the Chipmunks” at the South Pittsburg High football field on Friday, May 23, at 7:45 p.m.

The movie will be shown for free on a 30-foot inflatable screen with professional sound equipment.
